Late Bloomers

Each of the chickens is maturing at her own pace.

We got 8 eggs today! That's a little less than 1/3 of the flock currently in production, but it's pretty exciting.

I was made for this.

I will NEVER buy a Cornish Cross. Jersey Giants are slow to mature, but those poor cornish crosses are freaks of nature. They can't even walk! If they lived any longer, they'd die of heart attacks! No, I'd rather enjoy a slow bird. Though I must admit, it's pretty painful to "put up" an animal that you know so well. We're doing the extra chickens today. I hate doing chickens.

We have been getting 4 all of a sudden..I cant wait till the days are longer and we get more..I have a feeling some of our ladies are past their prime and that's why..Just wish I knew which ones!
