Lessons in Life

I wish I had something profound to say. This isn't deep, but it is a helpful life lesson, nonetheless.

The morning we went huckleberry picking, I made some hash browns for breakfast. After you grate the potatoes, you squeeze 'em like there's no tomorrow to get all the "potato juice" out... it makes for some nice crispy hash.

Well, I squeezed 'em and left the "potato juice" in the bowl. Then I left the bowl on the counter. Then we left to go huckleberry picking.

When we got back, on the counter was a bowl with a specimen from the Bog of Eternal Stench. It was black, there were fruit flies drowned in it, it reeked a fetid fume.

My first instinct (for shame! for shame!!) was mentally to blame my husband for using my mixing bowl for farm grease. I mean, there was bilious black goo in my bowl and I certainly hadn't put it there. But, in my defense, I checked myself before complaining to him... alright, maybe because I saw a blackened potato peel floating in the murky slush.

So the dual lesson is this: don't leave town with dirty dishes, and be slow to blame.
