Remedies, people, remedies!

It's not too bad, yet.

How would you attempt to nip this thing in the bud?

I guzzle Stash Lemon Blossom Herbal Tea with a spoonful of honey at the first sign of trouble. It seldom gets worse, and if it does, I just hit it with an occasional swig of Kahlua.  :-)

Lots of hot tea with apple-cider vinegar, lemon juice, and honey.  A drop or two of essential oils such as eucalyptus, pine, wintergreen, and tea tree oil mixed in some coconut oil and rubbed on the chest, neck, and soles of the feet...an over the counter salve like Unker's will do.  Hope you feel better quickly!

Yell at it!!  No, j/k.  I usually opt for Traditional Medicinals Throat Coat tea, which is instantly, soothingly sweet.    But yeah, hot lemon juice & honey (add whiskey if you have it) is another good one!  :-)

The last 2 time I started getting a sore throat I put a dash of Hydrogen peroxide in a cup of water and gargled. SDo not swallow it.  It is totally gross, but it was GONE the next day. Without doing this my sore throats usually last for days on end. I also drink tea and suck on Halls honey and lemon cough drops.

Goes down easily :).

hehehe... maybe I'll skip the lemon blossom and go straight for the Kahlua ;).

Oooh... that sounds soothing. There is a healing balm in Gilead! :)

hehehe... tea seems to be the frontrunner (and the lemon honey combo). So far so good.

Whiskey, honey, and lemon...A shot of whiskey + 1/2 a shot lemon juice + 1 Tbs honey (or whatever proportions you'd like :) ) As many times a day as you'd like..;)

I was JUST telling my husband this morning, "I wonder if we should gargle some diluted peroxide?" Might have to try this one. Does it foam? blech

Yes, fresh-squeezed lemon and raw honey work best for me. I put them in the Throat Coat Lemon Echinaccea tea and it's very soothing. I also find that gargling with an antiseptic mouthwash helps kill the germs. Hope you feel better soon!

Yes, it does foam a bit...gag...and leaves a horrible aftertaste , thus the honey cough drop! haha If I see "gunk" on my tonsils i will swab with a q-tip dipped in peroxide...gag... but it totally clears things up for me. my younger daughter does this too...works for her. My older daughter will gargle with salt water if she is desperate. SHE won't use the peroxide.

Salt water and warm water - gargle repeatedly.  This usually works!

The other thing that I would stress - is get 2 extra hours of sleep for the next few days. Rest is the best way to rapid recovery!

I have also used homeopathic  medicine thingies (available at your local natural foods store).  Coldcalm from Boiron - (available at Whole Foods Market) worked really well. I thought I was getting a bout of the plague a few weeks back (total exhaustion, slight fever, chills, sore throat..)I took it for a two days (following the directions on the box) and felt better much quicker than usual!

I forgot to add that any kind of throat drop with "caine" medicines in it. That helps numb the sore throat- well, anything it touches really!

In addition to the lemon tea with honey, I would add gargling with warm salt water. It's worked for me in the past, and it's what my mom recommends when I get a sore throat.

Hm... good thing I don't have to teach today ;).

Farmer's City Wife said...

Wow, that does sound soothing! Thanks, Mama Rosa.

You know, my sister-in-law recommends the salt water gargle, too.

Extra sleep? I'm all for that! :-D

Glad you're feeling better, Rachel! That doesn't sound any fun.

Veeeery interesting....

Warm salt water? That's a new addition to the salt water recommendation... and sounds slightly more appealing! Somehow the cold saltwater felt like ocean water... blech!

Since I don't always have lemon juice around I use True Lemon, which are little packets of dried lemon and nothing else.  This way I always have lemon for my tea with honey.  Or just warm water with honey and True Lemon works too.

Farmer's City Wife said...

Interesting, Clumpa! Hadn't heard of the stuff before. :)

Sore throat is quite bothersome. The faster you get rid of it via sore throat remedies treatment, the better.

When I have a sore throat I call and talk to a doctor. They can help anytime day or night. They can even call in a prescription if needed.

I somehow have the ability to imagine the effects in stunning detail.
As the person becomes more deeply involved in
the dark and risky behavior associated with addiction, there is a chance the
problem could cause illegal behavior and in the end,
result in death. is one of the best products on the market at the moment.
